THE CAUSE

A HOMECOMING FOR MUSIC & COMMUNITY

In 2009, Campout for the Cause was created in part to support The Central America Foundation, and All Hands Volunteers in response to the devastating 2010 earthquake. Through the years, Campout for the Cause has supported All Hands And Hearts, CAF, Emmy's Friends, Protect our Rivers and several local non profits. Check out this year’s causes below:

  • Located along U.S. Highway 50 between Salida and Poncha Springs, the 700-acre Hutchinson Ranch was originally homesteaded in the 1860s by Joseph Hutchinson before Colorado achieved statehood. The ranch has been passed down through six generations, making it the oldest family-owned ranch in the Upper Arkansas Valley.

In recent years, Chaffee County has grown in popularity as a tourist destination and location for second homes. Over the past few years, the Hutchinson Family worked with The Trust for Public Land, CCALT, and Land Trust of Upper Arkansas (LTUA) to permanently protect nearly the entire ranch and provide them with the financial resources they needed to continue to work the land. Abby Hutchinson, granddaughter of the family's patriarch, Wendell "Doc" Hutchinson, continue to manage the ranch.

The ranch is also one of the last working cattle ranches in the area. In 2003, the ranch and its original homestead were listed in the top five properties by Colorado Preservation Incorporated's list of prestigious and most endangered places. The Hutchinsons donated the original homestead, which is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places, to the Town of Poncha Springs.

  • Guidestone Colorado is an organization that is growing a vibrant agricultural future through education, community building, and partnerships. Their belief is that if individuals are exposed to experiences on local farms and ranches, those individuals develop an appreciation for where our food comes from and the commitment and resources needed to produce food locally. Resulting in choices that support and increase the capacity of the local food system.

Guidestone provides services to farmers, educators, youth, and community members through four cornerstone programs, including direct work with The Hutchinson Homestead & Learning Center.

  • Celebrating childhood is our mission statement. Our school family provides a warm, nurturing learning environment that provides children with daily opportunities for discovery based learning.  We believe that children’s interactions with the natural world provides an ideal learning environment to foster curiosity and joy.  By spending time in nature, children have the opportunity to fully engage all of their senses through hands on experiences, observation, experimentation, and real discovery. Outdoor opportunities in the early years support healthy growth and development which builds valuable skills that will last a lifetime.

  • Our goal is to provide the education, information, and awareness necessary for individuals to protect themselves from exposure, recognize the diseases, and to advocate for themselves, their families and their pets when faced with an infection no matter where they live, work, recreate or travel.

We are determined to help fill in the gaps of information regarding what we know about distribution and prevalence of ticks and tick-borne infections in Colorado through citizen science studies in order to better describe the risks in Colorado.

We wish to help our Colorado medical care providers recognize, diagnose and properly treat patients faced with these too often debilitating or even deadly diseases. We are determined to support patients seeking a timely and correct diagnosis and those that are fighting chronic illness as a result of infections, most often those patients sick with Lyme disease, the most commonly reported vector-borne illness in the United States.

We founded Colorado Tick-Borne Disease Awareness Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2016 to more effectively carry out our mission!
